Non-open source tools that can achieve similar goals are supported by eLearning, such as Softchalk. Softchalk is excellent for creating multimedia text-forward course materials, and has a simple interface that is easy to work with. The materials themselves can be embedded in or linked from Blackboard courses, and the cloud storage allows for a single point of truth for updating.
