This short guide will give you step-by-step instructions on how to review another user’s submission in Blackboard using Turnitin’s ‘PeerMark’.

NOTE: The following instructions cover the submission of several pieces of work (such as questionnaires, lab report write ups, short pieces of written work, etc). For this reason, these instructions will use the word “essay” to refer the work to be reviewed, and the action of reviewing/marking/providing feedback of the “essay” is referred to as a “review”.

This example shows an assignment where students are required to complete 1 single review.

Step 1: Access the essay you have been assigned to review

Go to your Blackboard course and locate the link to the Peer Review assignment set up by your Instructor. Click on the link.

You should now see a page similar to the image shown below – it looks almost the same as the usual TurnItIn dashboard, but has an extra tab entitled ‘PeerMark Reviews’.

A red dot next to the title indicates that other students have submitted essays that need to be reviewed.

The Instructor may set up the assignment to prevent those without a submission from reviewing another student’s essay. If so, you will need to submit your own essay before you can complete a review.

Click on the ‘PeerMark Review’ tab to see a page similar to the one shown below.

To see the essay(s) assigned to you for review, simply click on the ‘Start Peer Review’ link.

Step 2: Undertake your review

A new pop-up window will open, as shown below. The text of the essay is shown in the main part of the window.

In the right hand menu, you will see the Questions and Comments tabs.

The Instructor may have included set questions that you have to answer as part of your review. If so, these will be visible on the Questions tab. In some cases, these will have minimum numbers of words that you need to write to complete the review. As you complete these, the progress bar under the assignment title will show your progress.

Comments

You can also annotate the essay. Click anywhere on the essay to activate a pop-up box, where you can type your comments.

Save

As the name suggests, clicking on Save allows you to save your progress. This is handy if you want to return to work on the review at a later time. NOTE that if you follow this step, your review will not be finalised or submitted at this point.

Submit

To finalise your review, you must click on the Submit button.  You will see a confirmation message:
