Essential Information for Students Regarding TurnItIn Essay Submissions

As part of an upgrade to the University’s TurnItIn system, all students who have submitted work into TurnItIn are advised to ensure that you have downloaded/saved copies of your work and feedback (from all years you have studied) in the next few weeks.

What is happening?

The University has spent the 21-22 academic year in a transition between the old TurnItIn Building Block, to a new more robust TurnItIn LTI. We will shortly be finalising this transition.

During the summer we will be beginning the decommissioning of the older TurnItIn Building Block. From the start of the 22-23 academic year, you will only be submitting to the newer version of TII. By the end of the 2022 Calendar year, you will no longer have access to old TurnItIn Building Block assignments via the Blackboard interface.

How can you prepare?

We know that keeping access to your feedback is an essential part of your studies here at Manchester, therefore we are recommending that before the end of this academic year, you enter all of your Blackboard units containing TurnItIn assignments and download any assignments and feedback you wish to keep. This includes assignments from previous academic years.

To download your work:

  1. Enter the course in Blackboard. For older courses, you may need to choose “past courses” tab at the top of your Blackboard course list.
  2. Locate the assignment. This can often be located within the “Assessment” left hand menu, though it may vary depending on your course.
  3. Click View/Complete to open the TurnItIn Assignment.
  4. To download:
    1. The copy of your original submitted file: Click the download button.
    2. A copy of your file and feedback: Click “view” to open the assignment, ensure you can see your feedback and then click “download” > “Current View”
  5. Save document to personal storage.
  6. Repeat as necessary for remaining assignments.
