Initially developed to celebrate 200 years of excellence in education at the University of Manchester, the eLearning team released a series of events and resources in the 23/24 academic year, aimed at improving digital education in the Faculty.

The Digital Discovery Series will return in 2025 to showcase some of the useful tools that come with our new Central Learning Environment, Canvas. Watch this space!

Session Recording: Accessibility in Blended Teaching

In May, we explored the ways in which we can all improve the accessibility of of our online teaching materials online, as well as considering student experiences of online content and its accessibility. The session included helpful hints and tricks as to how you can easily bring your content up to standard for the benefit of everyone.

Session Recording: Live Interactive Assessment – Nearpod and TBL

In this session, we explored tools for facilitating live in-class assessments for large student cohorts. The session kicked off with insights into Nearpod and its potential as an interactive presentation tool. Academic colleague, Helen Jopling, also shared how she used Nearpod for flipped learning, enhancing engagement during Zoom teaching sessions.

The second half of the session covered the Team-Based Learning (TBL) approach facilitated using LAMS, a tool that has been gaining popularity in our faculty. Michael Smith, a familiar face in the Digital Discovery Series, discussed how he used it to deliver large-scale blended learning sessions in his role as a lecturer.

In January, we explored the transformative potential of PeerScholar for purpose of active blended learning and peer assessment. This academic event is tailored to educators, researchers, and staff keen on enhancing their teaching methodologies within higher education using cutting-edge software.
