Can I view grades for inactive and concluded students?
Yes. In Gradebook, select the ellipsis on the column header of Student Name and select either ‘Inactive Students’ or ‘Concluded Students’ as required.
Can I see if students have submitted work for an assignment?
Yes. In the Gradebook column for the required assignment, when students have submitted they will have a symbol for that assignment that resembles a page with a small clock. However, if the assignment has been set to anonymous (marking), the column will be greyed out and no submission information will be displayed (to maintain an element of anonymity).
There are two options to find a list of non-submitted students:
- In the Gradebook, use the “Assignment Names” drop down to choose the assignment you wish to query. Once selected, go to “Apply Filters” > “Submissions” > “Has No Submissions”. This presents you with a live picture of the submission.
- Via Course Analytics: In this case, all student submissions information can be downloaded as a report from the Course Analytics of the Canvas unit course, called ‘Missing Assignments’. The report will be updated every 8 hours.
Can I release grades from the Gradebook?
Yes. When the grade posting policy is set to manual (the default setting), select the ellipsis on the assignment column heading and select Post Grades. This will present you with 3 further options, Everyone, Graded and Specific Sections. Remember that ‘Graded’ refers to student work that has either a grade or comments recorded.
If you can only see “Everyone”, then this means that anonymous grading is enabled. If you are happy to release all marks, proceed to release to “Everyone”.
If however you have a handful of papers that need withholding: remove any marks or “Assignment Comments” from the SpeedGrader for those papers. Then remove the anonymity from the assignment settings. Following this change, you will be able to send grades and feedback out to “Graded” students only.
For those papers still needing to be marked anonymously; advise marking staff to switch on the personal anonymous marking setting, located in the SpeedGrader > cogwheel (top left) > Options.
Can I make notes in the Gradebook?
Yes. By enabling the Notes option on the Gradebook settings, a notes column will appear next to the student name column. Notes can be recorded for each student as required.

Can I submit an assessment on behalf of a student?
