In September 2013 TurnItIn released an App for iPads so that staff can mark student submitted work online. This App has been fully evaluated by the eLearning team.
It has been found that the App is useful in some specific situations, however not fully functional enough to deploy faculty wide. This wiki article explains where the app will not work (and why), as well as where it will work and how to use it.
Please ensure you read the article before using the App.
Where and Why the App Will Not Be Useful
The App. will not work in the following circumstances:
- There are multiple markers for a submission
- Locating the paper of a particular student when “Anonymous Marking” is enable (please note that University guidelines state that “Anonymous marking must be used wherever possible”).
As you can see in the image below, the TII App. completely anonymises the TII inbox and removes the paper title, as the App. is not associated with Groups that are created in Blackboard, it becomes impossible to distinguish student submissions or locate papers for individual markers.
This problem makes it impossible to deploy the App. for use in: Dissertations, Projects, Literature Reviews, EDMs, Lab Reports, etc as well as any unit with more then a single marker.
Useful Situations for the App and How To Guide
The TII App is useful in the following situations:
- There is a single marker on the TII assignment.
- Each marker has their own TII submission inbox set up.
